Yarrow is a common plant growing throughout Alaska. Some types have pharmacological properties similar to the prescription drug digitalis. Yarrow has been used by Alaska Native people as a traditional medicine to treat a variety of ailments, including infections, aches, sores, and colds.

Listen to Vera Angasan, Sugpiaq (Alutiiq) from King Salmon, Alaska, talk about using yarrow to treat cuts. Or read the transcript (ORAL HISTORY 98-22-05).
