There are three species of roses that grow wild in Alaska. They are all high in Vitamin C and the leaves, stems, bark, and rose hips are all used for traditional medicines and food.

Listen to Emily Willis of Skagway, Alaska talk about changes she has observed in the Sitka rose (Rosa rugosa) bushes and rose hips in her area. Or read the transcript (ORAL HISTORY 2018-14-01, PART 1). To learn more about how Emily Willis uses and grows plants, listen to her full interview in the Observing Change in Alaska's National Parks Project Jukebox.
