While most people think of using wild mushrooms for food, some are also known for their medicinal purposes. It is important to be careful when harvesting wild mushrooms, as many can be poisonous. Before heading out to forage for mushrooms, be sure to consult with or accompany a mushroom expert or refer to a mushroom identification guide book written specifically for your area.

Listen to Jack Reakoff of Wiseman, Alaska talk about using mushrooms. Or read the transcript (ORAL HISTORY 95-50-05, PART 4, SIDE A).
