Description:
A whaling crew traveling by snowmachine and sled to a safe spot on the shorefast ice to establish their whaling camp during spring whaling near Utqiaġvik, Alaska (previously known as Barrow). Naŋiaqtuġvik is the Iñupiaq word for a safe place on shorefast ice that is away from the lead edge where hunters set up a camp and store their whaling equipment when conditions at the lead become dangerous and they have to evacuate or when they are waiting for the lead to open or for other favorable conditions to develop.
