Linda Curda

Originally from Chevy Chase, Maryland, Linda Curda attended the University of Maryland School of Nursing and upon graduation in 1972 drove to Alaska with her husband. She got a job as a nurse at the US Public Health Service Native hospital in Bethel where she mostly focused on birth and babies. From 1975 to 1977, she completed a combined Nurse Midwifery and Masters of Public Health program at Johns Hopkins University, and taught in the program for three years while her husband completed law school. They returned to Bethel, Alaska in 1980, and Linda started working for the Community Health Aide training program. In 1982, she became coordinator of the Bethel Community Health Aide (CHA) training program, and went on to develop training manuals and curriculum, and help health aides receive academic degrees. In the mid-2000's, she moved to Anchorage in order to work on a large project to revise the Community Health Aide Manual (CHAM). Linda Curda has taught at the University of Alaska Anchorage, been a professor of Community Health and Acting Director of the Kuskokwim Campus at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, and coordinator of the Cama'i Dance Festival in Bethel.
