Paul Nathaniel

Paul Nathaniel is from Circle, Alaska. Being of Athabascan heritage, his ancestors have been living off the land and rivers in the region for many generations. In particular, he has ties that date back to at least the 1950s to the site at Forty Mile on the Yukon River where Richard Smith has a cabin. Paul has spent his life living a traditional subsistence lifestyle of fishing, hunting and trapping along the Yukon River and in the area of what is now Yukon-Charley Rivers National Preserve. In the 1990s, Paul and Richard Smith were trapping partners. Paul has also raced dog teams and most recently has served as First Chief of the Circle Village Council.
