Mike Sfraga

Mike Sfraga holds a PhD in northern studies and geography from the University of Alaska Fairbanks and a master's degree from Bowling Green State University in Ohio. He is an authority on the geography of Arctic landscapes, Arctic policy, and the implications of a changing climate on social and political regimes in the Arctic, and currently is the director of the Polar Initiative at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington, D.C. He previously served as vice chancellor at the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) as well as faculty member, department chair, and associate dean in the UAF School of Natural Resources and Extension. He is the author of "Bradford Washburn: A Life of Exploration" about the pioneering mountaineer and photographer. Mike was the interviewer for some of the oral history interviews in the Denali Mountaineering Project Jukebox.
