Ronald "Ron" Metzner

In the 1970s and 1980s, Ron Metzner worked at the Geophysical Institute, University of Alaska Fairbanks. He worked on a variety of sea ice related projects. The one most relevant here is his work with Dr. Lewis Shapiro on the project Historical References to Ice Conditions Along the Beaufort Sea Coast of Alaska (Scientific Report, Geophysical Institute, University of Alaska Fairbanks, 1979). For this project, Ron helped conduct interviews with elders about their knowledge of sea ice conditions, and worked with translator Kenneth Toovak to obtain written material in English for the project report.
