The
"Pioneer Miners of Alaska Project" was funded by the Igloo
#4 Foundation. The program is based on a presentation by
three local miners on April 17, 2000. Doug Colp, Carl
Heflinger and Glen Franklin talked about their experiences
in the mining business that covered many decades in regions
of Alaska and the Yukon.
William
Schneider, Curator of the Oral History Program at the
University of Alaska Fairbanks, videotaped this
presentation. Bill Burke, Research Technician for the Oral
History Program, met with these miners in May of 2001 and
together they sorted through personal photographs that would
become part of the project and compliment their personal
stories. Bill Burke designed and produced this
program.
The
photographs used in this project come from the personal
collections of the miners that were interviewed. They are
not to be used in any way without their
permission.
