GENERAL INTRODUCTION TO THE TWO JUKEBOXES

The Nanwalek and Port Graham Jukebox Project encompasses oral histories and photographs from the two communities. Although the two Jukeboxes are on the same CD each is its own unique project. Much of the background and history of the two communities is the same in that many ancestors of Port Graham residents came from Nanwalek. For more in-depth information on the histories, people, and economies of the two communities refer to the "Ethnographic Overview and Assessment for Port Graham and Nanwalek" written by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Subsistence for the U.S. Department of the Interior, Minerals Management Service.
